Mikhail Berger


Director General

Mikhail graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Journalism Department, and is a professor of media management and business department at the Higher School of Economics.

In 1978, Mikhail started his career as a journalist at Soviet Trade newspaper where he worked till 1986. In 1986 – 1997, he was an observer and later an economics editor for Izvestia newspaper. After that, Mikhail held a position of editor-in-chief at Segodnya daily social and political newspaper from 1997 to 2001, and then the same position at Business Chronicle magazine and ej.ru from 2001 to 2005.

Currently, Mikhail is Director General of RUMEDIA Group that comprises BFM.ru portal and Business FM and Chocolate Radio 98FM, as well as United Media Holding Company.

Mikhail is a winner of the USSR Journalists Union Prize and several specialized professional awards, including Book of the Year 2008 in the Business Literature category for the book ‘Cross of Chubais’.

Moreover, for several years, he was a columnist at The Moscow Times and also worked as an author and anchor for Echo of Moscow radio station, where he regularly appears to this day. Mikhail actively contributes to public life being a member of the Public Council for Complaints against Mass Media and a member of the Council for External and Defense Policy.
