Jim Tomaney, Senior Program Manager, Barclays Bank (UK) will deliver a speech at the IT Leader Forum

08 October 2009

In his current role at Barclays Bank - a major global financial services provider in the UK - Jim Tomaney has been responsible for implementing a number of major directional changes as the lead strategist and application lifecycle expert on what is currently the UK's biggest ATM infrastructure replacement project, including the deployment of HP NonStop Blades.

This project is now being used as a benchmark for the consolidation of the Barclays group's global ATM estate and allows for reducing risk of downtime (both the ATMs and the switch) and Total Cost of Ownership for the ATM channel, increasing ATM availability and improving the time to market for new services in the ATM channel. These changes impact the delivery, testing and support of the Bank's UK ATM network, and have reduced direct, recurring costs in ATM system testing by over £1 million, while increasing test coverage five fold, thereby reducing risk accordingly. The impact of the implementation of the testing approach eliminated an expected project overrun of 5 months, reducing the project costs by an estimated £3 million.

Jim Tomaney has more than 20 years of experience building, delivering, marketing and selling enterprise payments solutions and associated services around the HP NonStop platform for the ATM industry across the world, working in a variety of senior roles with organizations including HSBC, BBVA, Barclays, ING, LloydsTSB, CIBC, Bank of America, ABN AMRO and Vocalink.

Mr. Tomaney played a leading role in developing and delivering the product roadmap for BASE24 and BASE24-eps, the industry leading ATM solution. He also led a cross-industry workgroup that established what became known as IFX ATM and was responsible for the first major improvement in BASE24 source code management following his experience on the UK ICC project. Mr. Tomaney has managed teams to build and deliver payments solutions in challenging market conditions and is an expert in the software application life cycle.
